This look started as a copycat: one of the other teachers wore a denim shirt with black jeans and a grey cardigan and it was super cute. I started with this denim shirt and my black “magic” pants, but then went rogue and added the fur vest and boots. The neon bracelet adds a pop of color.
This skirt was probably too short for school, but that’s the beauty of the opaque tight. ALL of my skin is totally covered up, so it’s not nearly as scandalous as it could have been. Our school librarian gave this look a hilarious title – and told me to feel free to use it on my blog – but now I can’t remember! Something about a school girl gone bad, but way better than that. Let’s just pretend I remembered and it was awesome.
This jacket didn’t photograph that well. The fit is perfect in person, and it has this adorable little peplum in the back.
I like how the tattoo-reminiscent jewelry plays off of the classic (with a twist!) tweed jacket. And the snow boots were just a flat out necessity!
Valentine’s Day means pink, red, hearts and roses. So I threw them all into one outfit.
This was my low key Valentine’s look for school. I almost walked out of the house with ALL of my heart jewelry piled on, but decided at the last minute to remove most of it (Thank you, Coco Chanel!).
I wasn’t sure if the red shoes would look ridiculously out of place. There’s red in the scarf, but it’s kind of hard to tell, so I added the red bangle to help it look cohesive. I chose the grey slacks as a menswear piece to balance the sugary sweet girliness of the rest.
These heels were PRETTY AMBITIOUS for a school day. I made it through without busting out my backup chanclas, but you better believe these are not making a second appearance during the work week.
I got to go to another StyleChicago event this past weekend, this time at the Sofitel. No fashion show this time, but there were all kinds of fun beauty treatments, deep discounts on clothes and bags, skinny cocktails, sushi, and other girly snacks. I got a much needed mani and ate a bunch of goodies. Most of the girls got their eyebrows threaded (I’m STILL trying to grow mine out!), and there were also facials, Moroccan oil treatments, massages, and makeup tutorials. But once all the girls got together, we ended up chatting away and forgetting about everything around us!

And, of course, here’s the loot from the swag bag. Not as many full size items, but a LOT of good minis.
Here is the other bag I won. I got to the event first, so I was awkwardly milling around with my phone in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. I found a very short line to sign up to win a Luna bag. I thought it was just the reusable bag, but I was bored, so I signed both Jill and me up for one. The idea was that you put your name and phone number on a piece of paper, and they would text you towards the end of the night if you won. I noticed my text, and assumed that everyone won the cheap little bag, so I prompted Jill to check for hers. She didn’t get one. So, I headed over to collect my little grocery bag, and the girls clapped and said Congratulations! Huh?? Then they handed me the bag filled with MORE LOOT!
It was mostly just Luna stuff, but it was such a surprise!
AND, because we bought tickets for the next fashion show, Jill and I also got to take home 2 more full sized products each.
Here are the results from my first school picture not as a student. It came out pretty well, if you ignore the weird general Stepfordness. I ripped the above tiny picture off of the cd they gave us to make IDs for the kids. Below is a fuzzier, but more complete version (a crop of the cell phone pic I texted my mom!).
I wanted to go for something pretty classic, so I reached for my standard white blouse and black sweater vest. I couldn’t be bothered to dry my hair straight, and my waves are not what I’d call super professional, so I went for a low bun to keep things neat. Finally, I threw in the yellow bubble necklace for a little personality, but mostly because I had recently gotten it and was obsessed! A shorter necklace would’ve fit the frame of the picture better: lesson learned for next year.
If you are curious what I wore on my bottom half (you probably aren’t), it was these teal pants and, I think, black flats.

*Fun fact: The guts of the yearbook my celeb twin, Melissa Joan Hart, tries to get everyone to sign in Can’t Hardly Wait, is my high school’s yearbook (with a different cover)! I wasn’t a senior that year, but I wonder if she flipped through it when she was bored and thought, “Hey, that girl kind of looks like me!” (Spoiler alert: she totally did not.)
