Meeeow

I got to go to another StyleChicago event this past weekend, this time at the Sofitel. No fashion show this time, but there were all kinds of fun beauty treatments, deep discounts on clothes and bags, skinny cocktails, sushi, and other girly snacks. I got a much needed mani and ate a bunch of goodies. Most of the girls got their eyebrows threaded (I’m STILL trying to grow mine out!), and there were also facials, Moroccan oil treatments, massages, and makeup tutorials.  But once all the girls got together, we ended up chatting away and forgetting about everything around us!

Here is the other bag I won. I got to the event first, so I was awkwardly milling around with my phone in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. I found a very short line to sign up to win a Luna bag. I thought it was just the reusable bag, but I was bored, so I signed both Jill and me up for one. The idea was that you put your name and phone number on a piece of paper, and they would text you towards the end of the night if you won. I noticed my text, and assumed that everyone won the cheap little bag, so I prompted Jill to check for hers. She didn’t get one. So, I headed over to collect my little grocery bag, and the girls clapped and said Congratulations! Huh?? Then they handed me the bag filled with MORE LOOT!

It was mostly just Luna stuff, but it was such a surprise!

AND, because we bought tickets for the next fashion show, Jill and I also got to take home 2 more full sized products each.

Shine Bright Like A Diamond

Here’s what I wore out for New Year’s Eve. We had only planned on going out to dinner with our fave buddy, so I hadn’t put much thought into my outfit. I tried on several combos with varying degrees of sparkle, and would up with this. I basically piled of a ton of shimmery stuff and called it a day! NYE (and maybe Halloween…) is the only time you can pile on the sparkles like this, and I took full advantage.

The reason why this insanity works is the simple pants and solid blazer give the eye a safe place to rest. The straight hair also calmed down the whole vibe – my usual messy waves would’ve added to the noise.

The only new item here is the jacket (gift from Mom!). This is yet another example of how a blazer is the easiest way to smarten up a look. I look like a crazy teenager with the hoodie, but the (very inexpensive, btw) blazer gives this a finished, polished vibe.

Pinky Swear

This week was Spirit Week at school, so I don’t have much new material (hence all the “flashbacks”). For the uninitiated, Spirit Week is when you show your school spirit by wearing silly stuff all week (Mismatch Day was epic, and I’m pretty bummed I didn’t capture the glory of my insane outfit!). Tuesday was Color Day, where each grade is assigned a different color to represent. We pulled pink, which I was pretty excited about until I got home and realized that I don’t have much solid pink.

I usually sleep in this sweater! It is kind of awkwardly big/long (I bought it as an emergency cover up one chilly summer day), but super soft. I decided to go with the slouchy idea and paired it with boyfriend-y jeans and a big scarf. These pink glitter shoes jazzed the whole look up, and I threw on these earrings at the last minute just to be extra ridiculous (Jill thinks they look like Mentos).

P.S. Nails are purple because that’s our school color

Tickled Pink

I wore this for Report Card Pickup Day. I feel like when I’m trying to look super professional, I tend to err on the side of BOOORING. I immediately grabbed this white blouse and the black sweater vest (just like I did for Picture Day – still waiting to see how those came out…) but decided to add some serious color to make the look less, well, serious.

Browsing through This Time Tomorrow‘s shopping site, her Alaia’s reminded me that I still had these cute little maryjanes. I only lasted about 15 minutes in those heels before changing into my Tieks – the heels aren’t particularly uncomfortable but after walking up and down our super long hallway 3 times, I realized it just wasn’t happening.

I did, however, get A LOT of compliments on my necklace. Meanwhile, you can’t even see most of it! It has 7 different flowers in a variety of colors, but only 3 peek out of my collar. That’s okay, I’ll save the big reveal for another day.
